Public Secrets

Today I was reading about Public Secrets, a project of Sharon Daniel that relates the story of women in the Central California
Women’s Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla, California, the largest female correctional facility in the United States.  It is very interesting, because it uses the digital technologies to create a new narrative structure and moreover, to allow those women to express what actually they feel inside this prision and to “empower the participants to represent themselves in the media and, thus, to participate in and shape the public discourse around the social conditions and material circumstances they face on a daily basis”, as Daniel says in this essay “Hybrid Practices”.

I recommend to visit Daniel’s project to find different uses of digital technologies, not just thinking about making global and online news, but thinking in giving marginal people the oportunity to talk, to participate and break with the “Public Secrets”.
